This was a musing that went far beyond my wildest expectations. For some reason, this is my most favorite creation thus far. It just seems to be complete, in and of itself, which is rare for such a simple object. It incorporates a few things of note:
- The shape is topologically a torus - thus the texture map is toroidally UV mapped onto it.
- DoF is applied in postproccess using a zbuffer, which is why it has something to be desired.
- Made in Blender, Rendered partially with Blender's scanliner and partially with Yafray. (I was wrong about lightflow as I origianlly stated. I found the source file and its was a yafray XML, so go figure.)
Double Update:
Now at 1600x1200. Apparently I redid this years ago and "forgot" to upload it. Since I have little time for new work, I might as well put this up for old time's sake.
if you like it that much I /may/ be able to rerender from the sourcefile... I'll check if the program still works. If I remember properly, it crashes if I try to make the resolution too ambitious. That's the problem with old unsupported software like lightflow. bugs'll NEVER get fixed since the developer's gone and decided to evaporate. Anyhow i'll see what I can do. At the very least, I know I have a version without the blur.
it's so fluid!

If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn't brood. I'd type a little faster.
